Hello everyone!!!one sheet (1)

I am back and in full swing! I will be writing a blog post once a week and when things slow down, I will be writing more.

My heart is with Relationships Start With You. I want to make a difference in the lives of women because I was once a broken woman with absolutely no direction. The change came when I decided to live, forgive and be a blessing to others.

I have been physically and mentally abused, overweight, unemployed and had self-hatred. Today, I am a new woman  who is focused and have purpose! I share my story so that women will know you can overcome adveristy and see the world in a different light!gwens_before_and_after-266967

Happy Being Me/Brown Skin

Take care and love yourself! You cannot expect someone to treat you a certain way and you have absolutely no regard for your own well-being. Stop treating others better than you do yourself! You have to know your worth. Your family and friends can encourage and tell you how wonderful you are but it doesn’t mean anything if YOU don’t believe it!!! Go to counseling! Join a support group! Speak love and life over yourself. Stop believing negative things that other have said about you. They are miserable themselves. Love comes from within; it is not superficial. Words like”I am too fat; I am too dark; my hair is too kinky” are self-defeating. If you are tired of being fat, there is a solution-lose weight. Embrace your beautiful brown skin and natural hair! I wasn’t blessed with a round bottom but I had to learn to accept that there is more to me than my ass! Nobody can say it better than Angie Stone,”Happy Being Me” and India Arie, “Brown Skin.” Listen to these songs!!! I dare you!!!

What A Man? What A Mighty Good Man!!!!

Laughing black coupleIf a man loves you he is faithful! He cares about your wants and needs. He’s true to his word. He is a protector, provider, prayer partner, peacemaker and patient. A good man accepts you and your children and will love them as his own. He takes his family to church and he stands on his principles. He dries your tears when you are crying, holds your hand and assures you that he’s got your back! Do you know that man? If not, these are the characteristics you should look for in a good man.

The Biggest Lie Ever Told!!!!

self-esteem

Ladies, I want you to understand what you are doing to yourself for the sake of being with a male. You have to know you are worth more than you are accepting. That old adage,” It’s better to have a piece of a man than no man at all” is the biggest lie that has EVER been told. You should want the best for yourself!!! You deserve to be treated with kindness and respect instead of someone cursing, beating you, taking your money and stripping you of your self-esteem. You MUST change the way you view yourself. “You are worth more than rubies!” No matter what you have been told in life, you are worth being loved. You are God’s child and don’t you forget that! Love doesn’t hurt!!! RSWY wants you to know that you are NOT alone!!!

Shop Is Closed!!! It Will NOT Be Re-Opened For Business!!!

angry couple

Why waste your energy on someone who only sees you when it is convenient for him? He’ll show up for sex, a little cash and broken promises. Stop making excuses for this loser. He doesn’t have your best intentions at heart; he’s using you and every woman that crosses his path! Next time he “stops by,” look that idiot in the face and tell him “shop is closed! It will not be reopened for business!”

Lessons in Life: Forgiveness

Asking For Forgiveness

I am a firm believer in forgiveness. During your lifetime, you will experience hurt, disappointment and heartache. The key to dealing with these emotions is putting the negative events in your life in perspective. Your experiences are teachable moments. You learn who you are, what you want in life and you gain wisdom. Everything that you’ve had to face did not happen by chance. Either it was a lesson for you or the other person. God uses us as His vessels. So, forgive the person that hurt you. Come to grips with your past and allow yourself to move on. Say to yourself, “today I choose to forgive. The person that hurt me no longer has power over me. I am set free because I choose to forgive.” Forgiveness=Freedom

Juneteenth-What Strides Have You Made As People of Color?

Juneteenth

Juneteenth (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

As we celebrate Juneteenth today (148 years ago), what strides have you made to improve yourself, community, family and build a lasting heritage to leave to your children? We are people of color with a rich history. Are we living up to the standards that our martyrs have set, preached and lost their lives to allow us to have inalienable rights like everyone else. This question is for me, too! We need to be more community oriented, stress to our children the importance of education and respect, take our streets back, stop killing one another, demand drugs be removed out of our neighborhoods and away from our sons and daughters. We have a responsibility and we all know there is strength in numbers. Mentor a child. Help your sister and brother who are in need. It is our duty as a people to do so!!!

Father’s Day Blues

?????????????I know tomorrow a lot of children and adults are going to have mixed emotions about Father’s Day. If your dad is deceased, non-existent or you had a bad relationship, I ask that tomorrow you thank the non-biological men(surrogate fathers) for standing in the gap. To those of you who did not particpiate in your children’s lives, it’s never too late to ask for forgiveness and start building a relationship. If your children reject you, NO MORE EXCUSES, keep trying to reach out to them until the day you die. Understand they are hurt, disappointed, rejected and angry. However, forgiveness can take place when they are ready. Stop the vicious cycle, please!!!!
From the heart,
Gwendolyn
